Greenville Drive News Release
Lexington, KY - Sunday afternoon in Lexington was a getaway day for the Greenville Drive (30-20), but they may not want to get away after an offensive onslaught produced a 15-0 victory over the Lexington Legends (21-29) and a 3-1 win of the weekend series.
A four-run third inning gave the Drive more than enough runs on the afternoon, as Derek Miller smacked a two-out, two-run double to put Greenville on the board against Nik Stephenson (1-4). Rafael Devers followed with a two-run homer, his third of the year, to make the score 4-0.
The Drive continued to pile on all afternoon, scoring five more times in the fifth, once in the seventh, three times in the eighth and twice in the ninth.
The five-run fifth was highlighted by Mike Meyers' RBI triple, Mauricio Dubon's RBI single and Nick Longhi's three-run blast to right field, his third homer of the season.
Longhi continued his big afternoon in the seventh with an RBI single in the seventh to make the score 10-0.
Greenville smacked two more homers in the final two innings to pull even further away, as Dubon's three-run shot in the eighth made the score 13-0, and Javier Guerra's two-run homer in the ninth tacked on the final two runs.
Lost in the shuffle of the offensive outburst was the excellent pitching, as Drive hurlers Jake Drehoff, Brandon Show (1-0) and Michael Gunn kept the Legends off the board all game.
Drehoff worked three scoreless innings in his first start of the season. Show followed with four shutout frames in his Drive debut to earn the victory, and Gunn hurled the final two innings.
Longhi finished the day 4-4 with a homer and four RBI, and he drove in eight runs in his three games in the series. Dubon drove in four runs of his own with a pair of hits and three runs, and Devers and Meyers collected two hits apiece, with Meyers scoring three times.
The first-place Drive will return home on Monday night at 7:05 PM to begin a three-game series against the Kannapolis Intimidators, affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
