SAVANNAH, Ga. - Brett Marshall tossed his first career complete game, and the offense did more than enough before the rains came in an 8-0, six-inning victory over Savannah in South Atlantic League action at Historic Grayson Stadium Wednesday night.

The RiverDogs break a three-game skid in improving to 30-29, 61-67 overall, while Savannah sits at 24-34, 66-62 overall.

Marshall was simply brilliant retiring the first 16 batters he faced before allowing a one-out double in the sixth inning to Nick Santomauro. However, Savannah's bid to break into the run column was smothered, when third baseman Kevin Mahoney made a fantastic diving stop and threw out Alonzo Harris at first to keep the shutout intact.

After the inning concluded, a rain delay halted the action for 36 minutes before the game was declared final.

Marshall (4-2) surrendered only the double over 6.0 innings, with no walks and four strikeouts in earning the complete game victory, Charleston's first since Sean Black's complete game shutout of Savannah back on Aug. 7. The Highlands, Tex. native has won three straight starts for the first time in his career and has given up only one run in his last five starts, a span of 29 innings.

Charleston hit the ground running against Savannah starter Taylor Whitenton, scoring three runs in the first on Rob Lyerly's RBI double and Neil Medchill's two-run home run, his eighth of the year and second of the road trip, for a 3-0 advantage.

Mahoney continued the offense for the RiverDogs in the third, clobbering his second home run of the season to straight-away centerfield, upping the lead to 4-0.

Whitenton (8-7), who had allowed just one run over his last 17 innings, gave up four runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Reliever Guillaume Leduc did not fare much better, walking the bases loaded in the sixth. J.R. Murphy started the scoring with a bases loaded walk for a RBI, while Lyerly hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 6-0. Medchill entered and cranked a two-RBI double to left-centerfield, as the lead grew to 8-0.

Medchill posted a season-high four RBI, while Mahoney finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Game two, set for Thursday at 7:05 p.m., features Charleston right-hander and reigning SAL Pitcher of the Week Mike Solbach (4-4, 3.99 ERA) tossing against Savannah right-hander Collin McHugh (4-8, 3.71 ERA).
