Sloppy Play Leads to Loss

Rome, GA - The Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Rome Braves 6-3 Wednesday night in front of 2,074 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

The Grasshoppers scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Jose Duarte led off with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Chris Anderson. A groundout from Chad Cregar would plate Duarte for the 1-0 lead. Rome tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Kyle Rose singled, stole second and scored on a RBI double from Joey Terdoslavich.

In the second inning, Greensboro took the lead at 2-1. Jose Torres hit a bunt single and moved to third on a throwing error by Edward Salcedo on a groundball force out from Taylor Krick. Torres would score on a ground out from Michael Pasek. The Grasshoppers tacked on two more runs in the third on a two RBI single from Pasek for the 4-1 lead.

The Braves scored a run in the third inning when Rose walked, advanced to third on a stolen base and throwing error by Kyle Skipworth, and scored on a Phil Gosselin groundout. Rome made it 4-3 in the fifth after Rose walked, advanced to second on a single by Gosselin, and scored on a Terdoslavich RBI single. Kyle Rose scored all three runs for the Braves.

In the sixth inning the Grasshoppers added two insurance runs on RBI singles from Skipworth and Krick as the Braves fell 6-3.

Chad James (5-9) picks up the win for the Grasshoppers while Aaron Northcraft (0-2) got the loss for Rome. Sandy Rosario (2) gets the save. Rome and Greensboro meet again tomorrow night at 7pm. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
