Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Nick Ciolli had a seven RBI night which included a grand slam home run as the Kannapolis Intimidators routed the Lexington Legends in the first of a four game series on Wednesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium by the score of 13-1.
The Intimidators (29-30) trailed after the first inning 1-0 as Kody Hinze hit a two-out single to plate a run but it was all Kannapolis after that. In the bottom of the second inning, with a runner on the Intimidators took the lead on John Spatola's first home run of the season, a two-run shot that made the game 2-1 off starter Zach Grimmett.
The Intimidators doubled their run total against the Legends (29-29) in the third inning as three straight singles, and Ciolli's first RBI, added two more runs to the scoreboard and the Intimidators led it 4-1.
With two down in the third and a runner on first, Kevin Dubler walked before an RBI single from Daniel Wagner, one of three hits for him on the night, and a walk to Jake Oester to load the bases. Ciolli stepped up and belted the ball over the wall in right, a grand slam, a 9-1 lead and his fifth RBI came in on the swing.
A comfortable lead in hand, the Intimidators added to their advantage in the seventh as Spatola reached on an error, Juan Silverio singled and Dubler singled to load the bases. The Intimidators with Wagner, Oester and Ciolli got three straight hits with the bases loaded, with two scoring on Ciolli's single for his sixth and seven RBI of the night, a season high for a member of the Intimidators. After the seventh, the Intimidators led 13-1 and won by that score.
Cameron Bayne (12-9) allowed a first inning run and that was it, he went 6.2 innings in his sixth straight win, and league-leading 12th of the season. Kevin Moran, for the second straight outing, went 2.1 scoreless in relief.
Grimmett (5-3) allowed nine runs in 3.2 innings and took the loss, exiting the ballgame after allowing the grand slam to Ciolli.
The Intimidators had 15 hits, three hit days for Wagner, Oester and Ciolli and did not commit an error in the field. The Intimidators had previously lost two straight and are one game below .500.
Justin Collop looks to turn around two sour starts this season against the Legends and put the Intimidators back at .500 on Thursday at a 7:05 home start. He will be opposed by Luis Cruz.
