SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Charleston RiverDogs lost the first of four games against the Savannah Sand Gnats 2-1 on a walk-off solo home run by Jon Leroux in the bottom of the ninth Thursday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Leroux's blast cleared the fence in right field and broke a 1-1 tie with one out in the inning. The RiverDogs (23-24) had an opportunity to take the lead earlier with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, but Chris Breen struck out to end the inning.

Savannah (22-25) got on the board first with an early run in the bottom of the second. John Mora hit a one-out double to left and then scored on a throwing error by the first baseman Breen after Leroux grounded out. Charleston's starting pitcher Joey Maher settled down after allowing the unearned run and only surrendered three hits in a career-high seven innings pitched.

The RiverDogs evened the score in the top of the fourth. Dustin Fowler hit an infield single, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Angel Aguilar. The game remained tied until Leroux's walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.

Ricky Knapp pitched five innings in the start for Savannah and only gave up four hits in addition to the fourth inning run. Casey Delgado (1-0) finished the game with four innings of relief and earned his first win of the season. Rony Bautista (2-1) took the loss after surrendering the home run that ended the game.

Charleston's losing streak extends to four games with the loss. The R'Dogs will turn the ball over to Jordan Montgomery tomorrow to try to snap the skid. Montgomery was named Pitcher of the Week in the South Atlantic League for May 18-24.

COMING UP: The RiverDogs continue their four-game road series with the Savannah Sand Gnats Friday at 7:05 p.m. Charleston will send LHP Jordan Montgomery (4-2, 2.27 ERA) to the mound against RHP Martires Arias (2-3, 3.51 ERA) for the Sand Gnats.
