River Riders Walk off Flyboys in E-Town

ELIZABETHTON, TN --- The Rider Riders defeated the Greeneville Flyboys 3-2 Thursday night in Elizabethton at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark. Third baseman Robin Fernandez (St. Thomas) secured the first walk-off win for River Riders with a ground single to right to score Chase Adkison (OSU) from third.

In the bottom of the second, the River Riders (6-6) scored their first run when Sam Thompson (TCU) tripled to score second baseman Reagan Guthrie (Regis).

RHP Robert Bavon (OSU) started the game for the River Riders and pitched two innings before exiting in the top of the third with right arm cramps he is day-to-day.

RHP Dalton Buckingham (Sewanee) pitched a season-high three innings in relief of Bavon.

Thompson recorded his second RBI of the game for the River Riders with a single to score Fernandez from third, 2-0 Elizabethton.

The Greeneville Flyboys (7-5) began their comeback in the top of the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by third baseman Jake Dacunto (William Peace).

On a wild pitch by RHP Brendan Heiss (Southeastern) in the top of the ninth, Greeneville's Dancunto scored from third, tying the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, Adkison led off the inning with a single before stealing second base. The throw from catcher Grant Lashure (Ivy Tech) was offline, allowing Adkison to reach third with one out. On a 1-1 count Fernandez hit a ground ball to right field to walk off the game, 3-2 River Riders.

Elizabethton will look to sweep Greeneville tomorrow at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark, first pitch is at 7. Fans can stay after the game to enjoy postgame fireworks!
