BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Princeton WhistlePigs continued their winning ways, winning by a score of 11-5 on Thursday night. The Sock Puppets got on the board early, scoring two in the first inning on center fielder Bayron Acevedo's 2 RBI single. Kannon Handy started for the Puppets and struck out seven over three innings. Princeton couldn't put across a run in the three innings pitched by Handy. Justin Showalter started for the WhistlePigs and went four innings, giving up two runs and striking out six.

Princeton got the scoring started against the Burlington bullpen, scoring five runs against Tiernan Lynch. Only two runs charged to Lynch were earned. A.J Jones and Nathan Holt's 2 RBI doubles were the big blows in the fourth inning to propel Princeton to a 5-2 lead. They never looked back. Princeton plated another run on a sac fly by Fisher Pyatt in the fifth to increase the lead to 6-2.

Princeton went deep on back-to-back plate appearances by Jack Rubenstein and Nico Popa against reliever Luke Folsom in the sixth inning to blow the game open 9-2. Burlington started to rally after the seventh inning stretch on back-to-back singles, but only Adrian Figueroa came around to score on an Oscar Serratos Jr. single to make it a 9-3 ballgame.

Two balks by Burlington pitcher Conner Butler in the top of the ninth scored two runs. Princeton plated their tenth and eleventh runs of the day to make the score 11-3, before the Sock Squad attempted to pull off the rally of the season in the home ninth.

A single by Maui Ahuna in the bottom half of the ninth inning got the rally started, and he later scored on a line drive triple to left by Oscar Serratos Jr. Serratos Jr. then came around to score on a single by Ben Smith, but Princeton pitcher Eli Wright got designated hitter Cole Reynolds to ground out, and center fielder Bayron Acevedo to strike out to preserve the victory.

Serratos Jr. finished the day 2-4 with two runs scored for the Sock Puppets

A.J Jones finished the day 3-4 with two runs and two RBI for the WhistlePigs.

The WhistlePigs advance to 10-1 and the Sock Puppets fall to 5-7 on the season.

The conclusion of the two game series is on Friday at 7PM from Burlington Athletic Stadium.
