River Rats To Hold Food Drive This Weekend

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that the team will hold a food drive to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York during their two home games this weekend.

On Friday, November 16th during an invasion by the Hershey Bears and Saturday, November 17th when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins come to town, the Albany River Rats are asking all of their fans to bring in non-perishable food items to help the needy.

Each fan that brings an item of food to the Times Union Center this weekend will receive a raffle ticket from the River Rats. Throughout the two games the team will raffle off some great prizes, including autographed merchandise and gift certificates to some of the best restaurants in the area.

All food items brought to the two games should be taken to the River Rats Fan Relations Table located in the Times Union Center Concourse; all items collected by the River Rats will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in Latham. Fans can bring a wide variety of non-perishable food items such as: canned fruits, vegetables and soups, instant potatoes and stuffing, dry pasta, peanut butter, crackers and much more. The Regional Food Bank also collects other necessities such as jars of baby food, toiletries, coffee and tea, paper towels and even back-to-school items.

The Regional Food Bank has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities since 1982. It is the only organization of its kind in northeastern New York. The Food Bank collects large donations of food from the food industry and distributes it to charitable agencies serving hungry and disadvantaged people in 23 counties. From Plattsburgh to Newburgh, in urban, rural, and suburban communities, the Food Bank provides nearly 20 million pounds of food a year to over 1,000 agencies.

The River Rats host the Hershey Bears on Friday, November 16th at 7:00 pm at the Times Union Center. Saturday, November 17th the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins make their first trip to Albany this year for a 7:00 pm face off. Sunday the River Rats head to Hershey for a 5:05 pm match up with the Bears at the Giant Center.
