Admirals Set to Burn Rubber Against Atlantic Division Foes

NORFOLK, VA - After splitting a pair of home matches against their East Division Rivals from Hershey, the Norfolk Admirals are hitting the road this week for a set of four games in five nights against Atlantic Division opponents. In his first game of a conditioning stint, Ryan Craig netted the go-ahead goal during a three-goal third period as the Admirals came from behind to beat the Hershey Bears 5-3 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. Former Admirals captains Jason Morgan and Quintin Laing haunted the Admirals on Friday night at Scope, as the Bears defeated the Admirals 4-2. Morgan had a goal and two assists while Laing had one goal.

The Admirals now set sail through the Atlantic Division with stops Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Hartford, Springfield, Providence and Lowell, respectively. The road trip begins on Wednesday night in Hartford for the second Admirals B2 Night at Baxter's of the season. ADMIRALS' LOG

- The Admirals bolstered their attack with the additions of Mathieu Darche, Craig MacDonald and Matt Smaby from Tampa Bay this afternoon. Darche, MacDonald and Smaby have combined for 240 goals and 569 points in 819 career AHL games.

- Jonathan Boutin leads the AHL in save percentage (.943) and ranks fifth in goals-against average (2.05).

- Ryan Craig made a big impact with the Admirals in his brief two-game conditioning stint in Norfolk. On Wednesday night, Craig netted the game-winning goal and assisted on the insurance tally as the Admirals came from behind to beat the Hershey Bears 4-2. On Friday night against the Bears, Craig assisted on Kyle Wanvig's game-tying tally early in the third period although Norfolk's comeback bid against the Bears was unsuccessful. Upon returning to the Lightning on Saturday night, Craig netted a goal in Tampa Bay's 5-2 win over Washington.

- The three-goal third period for Norfolk on Wednesday featured three first-time goal scorers this season. Justin Keller, Ryan Craig and Mark Rooneem all scored their first goals of the season and first as an Admiral in the victory. Craig and Rooneem also scored in their Norfolk debuts.

- Joe Motzko's hat trick on Wednesday night was the 13th hat trick against Norfolk in team history. However, it was the first time in 69 regular-season matchups between the Admirals and Bears that a Hershey player turned the trick. It also was just the second time an opponent had recorded a hat trick and the Admirals still won the game.

- On Thursday, the Admirals signed the ECHL's third-leading scorer, Jeff Campbell, to a Professional Tryout Contract. Campbell had two goals and 11 assists with two penalty minutes and a +1 rating in eight games with the Gwinnett Gladiators to start the season. He is Gwinnett's all-time leader in goal scoring and ranks second in points and assists.
