River Rats Sign Brock Hooton To PTO

February 7, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that the club has signed right wing Brock Hooton to a professional tryout contract, calling him up from the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Hooton, 25, leads Reading in scoring with 38 points (14 goals, 38 assists) in 40 games played this season and is tied for second in the ECHL with four short-handed goals. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native is in his third professional season and has appeared in 170 career ECHL games. Hooton was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry draft, but chose college hockey over turning pro; he played four years of Division I college hockey for St. Cloud State University of the WCHA, where he was teammates with current River Rats Tim Conboy, Joe Jensen and Casey Borer. Hooton made his AHL debut on January 3, 2009 on a PTO with the Providence Bruins at Springfield; in his second and final game with the Bruins he scored a goal for his first AHL point on January 4th against the Houston Aeros.

Hooton is expected to be in the lineup to make his River Rats debut Saturday night as Albany hosts the Portland Pirates for a 5:00 pm face off at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

River Rats flex ticket packages and individual game tickets are on sale now at the River Rats office and the Times Union Center Box Office. For more information please contact the Albany River Rats at (518) 487-2244 or online at www.albanyriverrats.com.
