Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, February 7)... Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison scored 2:24 into overtime to lift the Rochester Americans to a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators this afternoon at The Blue Cross Arena. The win improves the team to 17-28-0-4 on the season and snaps a three-game losing streak this season to the Senators. All regulation goals came with the man-advantage for both teams.
Garrison led Rochester with a three-point night (1+2) to earn first star honors. Forward Karl Stewart provided a goal while Amerks captain Rory Fitzpatrick contributed a pair of assists to pick up second and third star honors, respectively. Tyler Plante stopped 26 of 28 shots on goal to earn his first win of the season.
Peter Regin and John Hennessy each scored a goal for the Sens as Jeff Glass recorded a 25-save losing effort between the pipes.
Stewart put the Amerks on the board first as he deflected in a Fitzpatrick slap shot at the 8:07 mark of the first on the power play. Stewart's tenth goal of the season was also assisted by Garrison who extended his team lead in the category.
The Fitzpatrick- Garrison tandem struck again on the power play as they assisted on Michal Repik's tenth goal of the season at the 18:35 mark of the first to take a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
The Sens cut the lead in half in the second with Regin's ninth of the season on the power play. Assisting on the goal was Thomas Kudelka and Mattias Karlsson.
The Senators got the equalizer at the 7:31 mark of the third on a power play goal by Hennessy. Assisting once again was Kudelka and Karlsson.
Garrison ended the contest midway through the extra frame as he let one fly over the glove of Glass to give the Amerks their first win against Binghamton this season.
Rochester closes its weekend at home as the San Antonio Rampage roll into town on Sunday, February 8th for the second and final meeting of the season. The 6:05 p.m. contest will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live as the Amerks look to rebound after suffering a 3-2 setback to the Rampage back on December 9th at the AT&T Center. The Amerks are 8-5-0 all-time against the Phoenix Coyotes' affiliate.
