Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-2 in front of 5,729 at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night.

The Wolf Pack broke a 2-2 tie in the third period on Brodie Dupont's 10th goal of the season, a short handed breakaway around Devan Dubnyk's poke check for the game winning tally.

The game was tight defensively on both sides early with very few quality chances on either side of the puck. Despite outshooting the Wolf Pack in the opening frame, however, the Falcons fell behind early on a long-range short handed goal by Hartford's Vladimir Denisov.

Denisov lofted a 60-foot wrist shot in on Springfield's Dubnyk. The harmless shot somehow eluded the Springfield netminder, who otherwise made a few stellar saves in the period, and gave Denisov his second goal of the season.

The offense picked up in the second period, and quickly. Springfield wasted no time coming out of the gate in the period, scoring just over a minute in on Colin McDonald's fourth goal of the season, a sharp one-timer from Guillaume Lefebvre that beat Hartford's Matt Zaba low to the glove side to tie the game at 1-1.

Hartford pulled ahead again only a few minutes later on the power play. Wolf Pack sniper Artem Anisimov got open on the man-advantage and received a quick pass through the crease from Bobby Sanguinetti. Anisimov easily lifted his shot over a sprawling Dubnyk to record his 22nd goal of the season.

Springfield capitalized on a power play later in the frame to tie the game once again. With a 5-on-3 advantage and the Falcons putting heavy pressure on Hartford's penalty killers, Ryan Potulny picked up a rebound in close and pulled the trigger, roofing the puck for his team-leading 21st goal. Rob Schremp and Viacheslav Trukhno picked up assists on the goal.

Hartford's Pierre Parenteau was awarded a penalty shot late in the third period after being tripped on a breakaway. Dubnyk stopped the attempt with his left pad to keep the game close at 3-2. Springfield dropped the contest despite outshooting Hartford 37 - 16.
