Houston Aeros News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - The Houston Aeros came back from a two-goal deficit only to lose in a shootout 3-2 Saturday night at i wireless Center. Houston (22-21-1-8) has now lost eight shootouts this season, at least three more than any other team in the American Hockey League (AHL). Krys Kolanos and Matt Beaudoin scored the goals for Houston, but the visiting team never had a lead in the game. Kolanos has three of the Aeros five goals in the last two games, and Houston continues their six-game road trip Sunday when they take on the Chicago Wolves at 5:00 p.m.
The Aeros and Flames nearly skated to a scoreless first period until John Armstrong netted his third goal of the game, an unassisted goal, at the 17:12 mark of the period. Quad City more than doubled the Aeros shots in the period at 11-5, however the Aeros had more power play opportunities with two compared to the Flames one chance.
The Flames took a 2-0 lead midway through the second period when Kyle Greentree tallied a power play goal for his 25th of the season. He was assisted by Carsen Germyn and Jamie Lundmark and it marked the sixth straight game in which the Aeros have given up a power play goal. Houston quickly answered on Kolanos' 19th goal of the season. He took a feed from Maxim Noreau and beat Leland Irving to make it a one-goal game heading into the third period.
Matt Beaudoin tied the game at the 7:50 mark of the third period on a power play goal when he banged in a rebound. He was assisted by Kolanos and Noreau. Neither team was able to score the go-ahead goal forcing overtime and eventually a shootout.
In the shootout, Irving stopped all four of the Aeros shooters and two of the four Flames shooters scored on Nolan Schaefer to give the Flames their fourth straight victory over the Aeros, 3-2.
