The Flames recorded their shootout win of the year on Saturday night with a 3-2 triumph over Houston. John Armstrong and Kyle Greentree scored the regulation goals while Carsen Germyn and David Van der Gulik added shootout tallies. Netminder Leland Irving stopped all four shooters he faced in the extra session.

John Armstrong netted the only goal of the opening period when he capped an end-to-end rush by sliding the puck through the five hole of Houston netminder Nolan Schaefer. The goal was Armstrong's third tally of the season and staked Quad City to a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The teams exchanged middle period markers. Kyle Greentree established a new career high with his 25th goal of the season during a Flames power-play at 10:29 of the period. Carsen Germyn found Greentree with a cross-ice pass to set up a one-timer. The Aeros sliced the Flames lead in half four minutes later when Krys Kolanos scored on a goal-mouth scramble during a stretch of 4-on-4 hockey. The period ended with the Flames holding a 2-1 edge.

The Aeros tied the game when Kolanos scored the only goal of the third period during an Aeros man advantage. Kolanos sent a shot from the high slot through traffic. Leland Irving was able to deflect the puck but couldn't stop it from trickling over the goalline for Kolanos' second goal of the night. The teams skated scoreless through the remainder of the third period and the overtime session.

In the shootout, Irving stopped all four shooters he faced to earn his first shootout victory. Carsen Germyn and David Van der Gulik supplied the shootout offense as the Flames earned their 18th win of the year and their first shootout victory.

The Flames host Rochester for the only time this season on Friday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available now at the i wireless Center Box Office, via phone at (563) 326-1111 or on-line at ticketmaster.com.
