River Rats look to build on two-win week

Albany River Rats News Release


The Albany River Rats skate against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the third time in less than a week on Wednesday night in a road match-up at 7:05pm. Then the River Rats meet up the Binghamton Senators once again at Pepsi Arena in a 7:00pm face-off this Friday night. And Albany closes out the first month of the New Year with a 7:00pm face-off against the Rochester Americans this Saturday night at Pepsi Arena.

Rat Bites:

· D Raymond Giroux recorded three (2-1-3) points last week and is now tied for tops among AHL defensemen with nine goals. The 2003 AHL First Team All-Star leads River Rat blueliners with 20 (9-11-20) points this season.

· C Craig Darby posted an assist last week and is now just one point shy of becoming the 69th player in AHL history to score 500 points.

· RW Jiri Bicek became just the second player in River Rats history to skate in 400 games on Friday night against the Binghamton Senators.

· The Albany River Rats won back-to-back home games last week to improve to 6-1-0-1 over the last eight games at home.

River Rats Rewind: Week 16 – January 19, 2004 (2-1-0-0, 4pts)

· January 22nd – BRI 1 @ ALB 2 – RW Chris Hartsburg posted the game-winner with 3:29 remaining in regulation in his return to the lineup at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. D Raymond Giroux opened the scoring with a power play goal during the second period and G Ari Ahonen made 22 saves for his eighth victory of the 2003-04 season.

· January 23rd - BNG 0 @ ALB 3 – G Ari Ahonen stopped 29 shots on goal for his first shutout of the season allowing the River Rats to post their third win over the Senators this year. D Raymond Giroux scored for the second straight contest and C Adrian Foster chipped in two assists for the second time in as many nights in the club's first home shutout since November 2, 2002.

· January 24th – ALB 0 @ BRI 1 – C Blaine Down scored the only goal 30 seconds into the game as Bridgeport earned a split of the two games last week. River Rats G Ari Ahonen continued his strong play with 28 saves on 29 shots in the first of four meetings at the Arena at Harbor Yard during the 2003-04 campaign.
