THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS...

The HAMILTON BULLDOGS (Montreal) are currently 1st in the North Division and fourth overall in the AHL with 56 points and a 24-14-6-2 record... The Bulldogs are 3-3-3-1 in their last 10 games but are currently on a four game unbeaten streak at 3-0-1-0... Hamilton is 9-8-4-0 on the road this season and are ranked 2nd overall in the league in penalty killing while on the road at a 90.1% success rate... Hamilton leads the season series with a 4-1-0-0 record... Benoit Gratton leads the Bulldogs' attack with seven points (3G,4A) in three games against the Baby Leafs. St. John's Captain Aaron Gavey has two goals and two assists in five games against Hamilton... Right winger Josef Balej leads the team and is fourth in the AHL in scoring with 46 points (24G,22A) in 44 games. Balej has 11 points (6G,5A) and is a plus seven in his last 10 games... Goaltender Olivia Michaud has a 2-2-1 record, a 1.77 GAA and a .930 save percentage in five games since joining the Bulldogs.

The CLEVELAND BARONS (San Jose) climbed to 2nd place in the North Division with 51 points and a 21-15-4-5 record... The Barons are 3-1-0-0 against the leafs this season... This will be the first appearance at Mile One Stadium in franchise history for Cleveland... The Barons are 6-3-0-1 in their past 10 games and have a road record of 11-6-3-3... Cleveland has the 2nd best powerplay in the league at 18.5% and has the 2nd last penalty killing effort at 80.4%... Right winger Miroslav Zalesak leads the AHL in scoring with 52 points (23G,29A) in 45 games. Zalesak was the Shark's 5th choice, 104th overall in 1998... Former Baby Leaf Brad Boyes has the hot hand for Cleveland tallying 13 points (6G,7A) in his last 10 games... Defenceman Garrett Stafford has 11 points (3G,8A) in his last 10 games...

The St. John's Maple Leafs resume their AHL schedule after a 10 day layoff.

The Maple Leafs will play six games in nine days against North Division opponents Hamilton, Cleveland and Syracuse.

St. John's is unbeaten in their last four games (2-0-2-0) at Mile One Stadium.

The Baby Leafs are ranked 9th overall in the AHL with the man advantage at a 16.15 success rate.

The Maple Leafs are 15-2-1-0 when leading by two goals and are 6-1-0-0 when leading by three goals. The team is 7-3-3-0 when playing Tuesday and Wednesday games.

WHO'S HOT...

Nathan Barrett: In his last nine games Nathan has 12 points (7G,5A) has a plus three rating.

Aaron Gavey: Gavey has the hot hand for the team recording 15 points, including eight goals in his last nine contests.

Josh Holden: Since returning from injury Holden is averaging a point a game. Holden has two goals and seven assists in nine games.

Harold Druken: Druken has five points in his last five games including three goals.

Mikael Tellqvist: With a win and a tie last week Tellqvist improved his record to 7-5-1 record, a 2.53 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS...

The Syracuse Cruch will be making their first visit of the season to St. John's next Tuesday and Wednesday, February 3 & 4.

The Baby Leafs visit the Toronto Roadrunners next Friday night at the Ricoh Coliseum.

The rivalry continues with the Hamilton Bulldogs next Saturday at Copps Coliseum in a 5pm (NT) matchup.

RECENT TRANSACTIONS...

SEAN GAGNON AND CHAD WOOLLARD SIGNED

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that defenceman Sean Gagnon has been signed to an AHL contract with the St. John's Maple Leafs. Gagnon started the season with the Utah Grizzlies and recorded six penalty minutes in seven games. In 348 AHL and IHL games Gagnon has recorded 90 points (29G,61A) and 1,701 penalty minutes. In 1996-97 Gagnon led the IHL with 457 penalty minutes in 72 games with Fort Wayne and has appeared in 12 career NHL contests and recorded one assist and 34 penalty minutes with the Phoenix Coyotes and the Ottawa Senators. The Maple Leafs have also signed left winger Chad Woollard of the Fort Worth Brahmas (CHL) to a PTO. Woollard has 32 points (14G,18A) in 37 games this season with the Brahmas. The 6'2", 205 lb native of Hanover, ON has played the past three seasons in Fort Worth and has tallied 139 points (70G,69A) and 426 penalty minutes in 150 games.

HEDIN RE-ASSIGNED TO ST. JOHN'S

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday that they have re-assigned defenceman Pierre Hedin to the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.

Hedin, 25, played three games for Toronto collecting one assist after his recall January 8. He collected his first career NHL point (assist) in his first career NHL game January 13 vs. Calgary. Hedin has also played 38 games for St. John's this season collecting 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) with four penalty minutes.

The native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden was Toronto's eighth choice, 239th overall, in 1999 Entry Draft.
