Albany River Rats News Release

Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats have joined the US Marine Corps' to promote and support the annual Toys for Tots campaign in the Capital District. The program, which collects toys for distribution to underprivileged children during the holidays, will kick off locally on 'Black Friday'.

River Rats' mascot, 'Rowdy', will join the Marines at Crossgates Mall throughout the day on November 26th. In addition, the team will collect new, unwrapped toys at its Pepsi Arena home games on November 26th, 27th, and December 1st, 3rd and 8th. The River Rats' portion of the program will culminate with a Teddy-Bear-Toss during the River Rats' December 11 game.

Locally, Toys for Tots hopes to bring a smile to more than 50,000 needy children stretching from Binghamton, through Albany and north to Plattsburgh. The Toys for Tots train, which will distribute toys in Binghamton the morning of December 11, will be re-stocked in Albany following the River Rats game that night. Fans attending the 7:30 Saturday game are asked to bring a plush toy they can throw on the ice during the Teddy-Bear-Toss intermission.

"We're honored to be working with the Marines and the Toys for Tots program again this year," said Garen Szablewski, President & CEO of the River Rats. "It's an important campaign that touches so many young people in our area, and our entire organization is committed to helping make it a huge success."

The Albany River Rats, in their 12th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils.
