Hamilton ends losing streak

ROCHESTER, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs ended their eight-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Wednesday evening. Earning the win in net for the Bulldogs was Yann Danis, who stopped 28 of 29 shots.

The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at the 12:13 mark of the first period, when Benjamin Carpentier took a one-timer shot from the slot that beat Amerks goaltender Ryan Miller. Earning assists on Carpentier's first goal of the season were Andrei Kostitsyn and Gavin Morgan.

Thomas Vanek evened the score at 17:27 on the power play for the Amerks when he tipped a David Cullen point shot into the Bulldogs goal. Jason Pominville drew the other assist on the Rochester goal.

Hamilton regained the lead at 9:25 of the second period on the power play when Chris Higgins sent Jason Ward on a breakaway all alone on Miller. Ward made no mistake by making a deke and roofing a backhand shot into the Amerks net.

Steve Ott added an insurance goal for the Bulldogs at 10:28 of the third period. Duncan Milroy, who kicked the puck to Chris Higgins, initiated the play. Higgins then gave Ott a no-look pass in the slot. Ott's goal was his second of the season.

In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis picked up his seventh win of the season by making 28 saves. Ryan Miller took the loss for the Amerks despite stopping 21 shots.

The Bulldogs scored once on four power play opportunities. Rochester scored once on seven opportunities with the man-advantage.
