
River Rats Double Pirates to End Streak

Portland, Maine - Brad Herauf scored what turned out to be the game winning goal midway through the third period to lead the Albany River Rats to a 4-2 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,597 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Albany win ended the Pirates franchise record-tying eight game home winning streak. Matthew Pistilli, Drayson Bowman and Chris Terry also scored for the River Rats while Jacob Micflickier collected two assists as Albany improved to 31-23-3-3 with the win. Marc-Andre Gragnani and Paul Byron scored for the Pirates, now 33-18-5-3. Pistilli got the River Rats on the board early to give the visitors a 1-0 lead before Gragnani and Byron countered to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead after one. Bowman struck in the final minute of the second to send the two teams into the third tied at two. Herauf gave Albany the upper hand midway through the third and Terry hit the empty net to complete the scoring. The Pirates out shot the River Rats 28-26 in the game as Jhonas Enroth took the loss. The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were 1. Herauf; 2. Byron and 3 Albany defenseman Bryan Rodney.
The Pirates return to action tomorrow night when they travel to Hartford to meet the Wolf Pack in a 7 p.m. start. The game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 and on line at portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. The next Pirates home game takes place Sunday when the River Rats visit for a 4 p.m. start at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The first 2,500 fans into the game will receive a free Pirates t-shirt courtesy of Five County Credit Union. Plus, join us for the "Day of Hockey" to benefit the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, supported by Irving Oil and supported by the Cumberland County Civic Center. The day-long event will be presented by the Portland Pirates Foundation and Huskies Youth Hockey. The 2010 Day of Hockey will begin with Huskies Youth Hockey holding a mite round robin tournament in the morning from 7-10 AM. Following that the Southern Maine Law Enforcement All-Star hockey team will take on the Portland Fire Department Men's Hockey Team starting at 12:30 PM, concluding at 2:00 PM with the Portland Pirates game vs. the Albany River Rats to end the day at 4 PM.
