Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Aeros (28-26-6-1) scored two unanswered but it wasn't enough to erase a three-goal deficit as the Texas Stars (32-21-3-4) defeated the Aeros 3-2 in front of 6,510 at Cedar Park Center Friday night. D Jamie Fraser and C Cody Almond scored the goals for Houston and G Barry Brust (6-6-0) made 34 saves in the loss. Former Aeros goaltender Matt Climie (15-14-3) saved 26 of 28 shots faced to earn the victory.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame scoring a pair of power play goals. After killing a Cross Checking major to LW Scott McCulloch and with C Nathan Smith in the box for Goaltender Interference, D Andrew Hutchinson sent a point shot on net where former Aero Mathieu Beaudoin blocked it to the ice, turned and beat Brust stick-side for his 15th of the season at 10:32. At the 12:50 mark Hutchinson again fired a point bid on net where C Travis Morin gathered the rebound and went top shelf for his 15th of the campaign. D Garrett Stafford was granted a secondary assist on both Stars goals.
The Stars extended their lead to 3-0 off the stick of RW Sergei Korostin. Brust made a couple pad saves before Korostin corralled a rebound in front and banged the puck into a wide open net 8:47 into the second. The Aeros came back with a pair. With the puck loose off the left pad of Climie, Fraser poked the puck to the back of the net for his third of the season at 10:03. Smith was credited with an assist on the goal to extend his assist streak to four games and RW Duncan Milroy extended his point streak to three (2-1=3) with a second helper. Almond made it a one-goal game when he took a feed from RW Danny Irmen to the left circle and sent a wrister past Climie at 15:13.
After a flurry of shots on goal by the Aeros in the closing seconds, neither club was able to find the net in the final stanza. Texas had not eclipsed the 30-shot plateau against the Aeros until outshooting Houston 37-28 in Friday's game. The Aeros also gave up a series-high seven power plays, killing five, while the Stars penalty kill went a perfect 5-for-5.
The Aeros and Stars take to the ice again tomorrow night for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop from Toyota Center. The Aeros will be wearing their alternate red sweaters and encourage fans to wear red to the game in support of the team. The first 3,000 fans receive a red Aeros dry fit shirt and the game will be televised live on Fox Sports Plus (Comcast channel 76). The game will be streamed live over the internet through ahllive.com and you can listen to Communications Manager Robert Desimone on 1070 AM-KNTH. Follow the interactive in-game blog on aeros.com.
