River Otters Clinch Playoff Spot With 4-3 Victory Against Outlaws

April 3, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

The Missouri River Otters clinched a playoff spot with a 4-3 victory against the Kansas City Outlaws Sunday afternoon at the Family Arena.

The River Otters came out flying in the first period and took an early lead. Ryan Johnson skated the puck up the right wing and dropped the puck to Mike Dombkiewicz, who rifled a wrister behind Outlaws goaltender Jan Chovan. Missouri struck again five minutes later when Frank Littlejohn deflected a T.J. Kemp shot between the pads of Chovan for his 32nd goal of the season.

Four minutes into the middle period the River Otters extended their lead to three. Mat Snesrud took a terrific pass in the slot from Jamal Mayers and fired a shot behind Chovan for his 10th goal of the season. The outlaws got on the board with two minutes remaining in the period when Dan Rohanna scored a fluky goal on Jason Tapp.

Lars Pettersen extended the River Otters lead early in the third period off the rebound of a Littlejohn shot. The Outlaws got a shorthanded goal from Jason Ruff and a late power-play goal from Joe Seroski to make it a 4-3 game, but that's as close as they got. Tapp made 18 saves for his 23rd victory of the season, while Chovan made 30 saves in defeat.

The River Otters play the Komets Friday night at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 PM CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 webcast at www.riverotters.com.
