Komets announce 2004-05 Player Awards

Fort Wayne, IN — The Fort Wayne Komets held their annual end-of-season Player Awards Presentation immediately following their 2-1 win against the Adirondack Frostbite Sunday evening April 3, 2005, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.

The following is a list of the awards presented:

1. Bud Gallmeier Memorial Trophy for Community Service Award---Jonathan Goodwin

Selected for community service and dedication to the game of hockey in memory of long-time Komet beat writer Bud Gallmeier.

2. The Wiegmann Family "True Komet" Award---Sean Venedam

Exemplifies team spirit and positive attitude on and off the ice.

3. NOB Brick Stonewall Defensive Forward Award---Colin Chaulk (3rd straight year)

The winner of this award can be counted on to play a sound defensive game at both ends of the rink.

4. Continuous Improvement System's Plus/Minus Award---Troy Neumeier

The player with the best plus/minus rating.

5. Mr. Hustle Award---Danny Stewart (2nd straight year)

This award takes into account the player's personal stats and overall up-tempo style of the game.

6. Unsung Hero Award---Tyler Masters

As a tribute to former Komets Robbie Irons and Terry Pembroke, this 5/30 award is given to the player whose hard work, dedication to teammates and love of the game is in the true spirit of Komet legends Irons and Pembroke.

7. Komet Kuarters Most Improved Player Award---Andy Townsend

For the player showing the most improvement in his game from the beginning of the season to the end.

8. Komet Defenseman of the Year Award---Troy Neumeier

For the Komet defenseman of the year for his overall play at both ends of the rink.

9. Komet Rookie of the Year Award---Jonathan Goodwin

This award goes to the player who is in his first year as a Komet and has not played more than 25 pro games in North America.

10. Most Valuable Player of the Year Award---Sean Venedam

This award is voted on by the Komet players themselves.
