
Flint loses to Adirondack in Shootout

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League are still battling for a spot in the Colonial Cup Playoffs. Flint is looking for victories but had to settle for one point in the 4-3 shootout loss against the Adirondack Frostbite in front of 3,561 at Perani's Arena on Saturday night.
Flint opened the scoring in the first period on a power play goal by right wing Tom Ditzer (9) who redirected a slap shot from Rob Valicevic past Frostbite goaltender Kris Tebbs at 3:13 for the 1-0 lead. Adirondack tied at on a goal by right wing Frank Bakrlik (19) on a picture perfect pass from Justin Kelly and Hugo Belanger at 8:15 for a 1-1 tie after the first period.
In the second period, Flint fell behind 3-1 as a result of two Adirondack goals in less than four minutes on a power play goal by center Sylvain Cloutier (27) at 8:33 and an even strength goal by left wing, Hugo Belanger (33) at 12:12 to take the two-goal cushion. Flint cut into the lead with a late power play goal by center John DiPace (19) at 19:22 trailing 3-2 after the second period.
Flint tied it in the third period on a goal by right wing, Jason Selleke (9) at 8:11 for the 3-3 score and would stay that way until the end of regulation time to force the shootout. Flint was outscored 1-0 in the shootout as the game deciding goal was scored by Adirondack's Justin Kelly.
Flint (33-31-12, 78 pts.) is in third place in the Central Division and ninth overall in the league standings. With four games to play, the Generals trial eighth place Quad City (37-28-11, 83 pts.) by five points as a result of the Mallards 4-3 shootout loss against the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night. The Generals are idle on Sunday while the Mallards host the Kalamazoo Wings in an afternoon matinee at the Mark of the Quad Cities.
Adirondack (47-21-8, 102 pts.) still hold first place in the Eastern Division and second place overall in the United League standings. The Frostbite will play at Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon.
