Mechanics dominate Jackals 6-1 for eighth straight win

Fraser, MI – Rookie newcomer Jared Ross netted two goals and added an assist to lead the Mechanics to a 6-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals. Joe Burton scored with 13 seconds remaining in the game to inch one goal closer to 600 and the Mechanics notched their eighth consecutive win. The Mechanics are now 14-2 in their last 16 games (33-36-7 overall).

The Mechanics controlled the pace of the game from the start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on two goals from Ross and one from Rick Smith. Bryan Smolinski, assisted by Burton and Ross, added a second period goal to give the Mechanics a 4-0 lead before Trevor Burgess of Elmira scored to prevent the shutout. Chris Gignac found the back of the net 1:40 into the third period and Burton scored with just 13 seconds left in the game to seal the 6-1 victory. Burton is now just one goal away from 600 for his career.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Mechanics fired more than 50 shots on net. In goal, Rod Branch made 22 saves for Motor City, while Greg Hewitt stopped 47 in net for the Jackals.

The Mechanics host their final home game of the season on Wednesday April 6th at 7:30pm when they host the Muskegon Fury. The Mechanics home jerseys will be auctioned off following the game. All proceeds will benefit the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. The first 2,000 fans will receive pucks courtesy of Children's Leukemia Foundation and WCSX. Tickets are still available!
