Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: With wind gusts topping out at nearly 60 miles per hour in the area, the Sacramento River Cats (21-18) blew away the Albuquerque Isotopes (15-24) 12-5 Monday night at Isotopes Park. Albuquerque can split the four-game series with a win tomorrow.

THE TURNING POINT: The River Cats jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before the Isotopes put up a five-spot on the board in the fourth to pull within just two runs. Catcher Ryan Casteel mashed his first homer of the season, a two-run shot to get the offense rolling. Three consecutive singles by Kyle Parker, Angelys Nina and Tim Smalling paved the way for three more runs to score. Not phased, Sacramento used a two-run seventh and a three-run eighth to put the game out of reach as Albuquerque couldn't scratch together any more offense.

PARKER PARKED IT: Left fielder Kyle Parker picked up a single in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games and finished Monday 1-for-4 with a run scored. During his streak, Parker is 10-for-28 with two doubles, two homers, and three RBI.

MR. McBRIDE: The hottest Isotopes hitter of late has been first baseman Matt McBride, and he continued his good work on Monday. He turned in a 2-for-4 afternoon with a pair of singles and a run scored. He now has six straight multi-hit games. Since Wednesday, McBride is batting .583 (14-for-24) with eight runs scored, three doubles, three home runs, six RBI and a walk. He also has hits in 10 of his last 11 games. HAMMER TIME: Catcher Ryan Casteel extended his hitting streak to nine straight games with a fourth inning home run. After finishing the game 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, the backstop in now batting .529 (18-for-34) with seven runs scored, four doubles, a triple, a homer, eight RBI and a walk during that stretch.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and River Cats will play the finale of their four-game series Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Chris Rusin (3-2, 5.52) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque, while Sacramento will go with right-hander Clayton Backburn (1-1, 1.64).

IN THE HOLE: Following this eight-game homestand against Fresno and Sacramento, the Isotopes will hit the road, visiting the Round Rock Express and New Orleans Zephyrs. This homestand wraps up a stretch of 16 out of 20 games at home.
