
Eichoff, Hoying Earn Rangers Monthly Honors

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced the club's minor league award winners for the month of April today. Round Rock Express RHP Jerad Eickhoff was named Pitcher of the Month and OF Jared Hoying was named Defender of the Month. Additionally, Hickory's OF Luke Tendler was named Player of the Month and High Desert's LHP Cody Ege was named Reliever of the Month.
Eickhoff, 24, posted a 2-0 record with a 3.38 ERA (13.1ip/5er) in two starts with the Express in April. In his first Triple-A start on April 24 against Colorado Springs, Eickhoff took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before giving up a two-run home run with one out. It was the longest a pitcher has taken a no-hitter in Express history. He also recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in that game. The Indiana native started the season with Double-A Frisco and went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA (10.0ip/3er) in two starts before being promoted to Round Rock on April 23. He was selected in the 15th round of the 2011 June draft out of Olney Central Community College.
Hoying, who turns 26 today, started 16 games in the outfield in April, three games in right field and 13 games in center field. In 77 total chances, Hoying has committed just one error this season. He is batting .246 (31-126) with a Triple-A-leading 5 triples and a team-leading 6 home runs and 21 RBIs. Hoying was drafted in the 10th round of the 2010 June draft out of University of Toledo.
The Express continue a five-game, four-day series in Colorado Springs before returning to Dell Diamond Thursday, May 21.
