Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Ty Kelly and Jacob Wilson each hit a two-run home run to propel the Memphis Redbirds to a 5-1 win over the visiting Omaha Storm Chasers on Monday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
With the win, Memphis improved to 16-23 overall, and has taken three of the first four games from Omaha to clinch its second winning series this season. The two clubs wrap up their five-game set at 7:05 pm CT on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
Redbirds starting pitcher Zach Petrick (2-3) earned his second consecutive win of the season, surrendering one run on four hits in seven innings. The right-hander walked and struck out none with his 91 pitches (58 for strikes). In four May starts, Petrick is now 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA (4er/24.0ip), tied for the sixth-lowest mark in the league this month.
In his Triple-A debut, Wilson went 1-for-2 with home run, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored. The 24-year-old worked a two-out walk in the fifth and came home on Kelly's two runs blast, a line drive onto the right field picnic pavilion. It was Kelly's second long ball of the season.
Two innings later with a runner aboard, Wilson hit a two-run homer just beyond the left field wall for a 4-1 lead. Greg Garcia, who waked to open the inning, scored on Wilson's first career Triple-A home run.
Outfielder Matt Williams added an insurance run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to plate designated hitter Ed Easley (1-3, R, BB).
Former Redbirds pitcher Clayton Mortensen (2-4) took the loss for Omaha, allowing three runs in six innings.
Omaha's lone run came on a Reymond Fuentes solo home run in the seventh.
Memphis and Omaha wrap up their five-game series on King Cotton $1 Hot Dog night at AutoZone Park on Tuesday. Redbirds left-hander and St. Louis Cardinals top prospect Marco Gonzales (0-1, 7.66) will start the 7:05pm CT series finale against Omaha right-hander Casey Coleman (0-1, 4.76).
