Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (18-21) fell for a third time in four games against the Memphis Redbirds (16-23), and suffered a seventh loss in the eight games so far on the current roadtrip. The 5-1 defeat clinched Omaha's third series loss in their last four road matchups.

Omaha starter Clayton Mortensen did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, but it was a big one as Memphis' Ty Kelly hit a two-run homer to break up a scoreless tie. After Mortensen walked a batter to start the seventh, Scott Alexander came on in relief and allowed a two-run round-tripper to Jacob Wilson. Mortensen suffered his fourth loss, tied for the team lead, despite notching his second quality start of the year by giving up three runs over six innings. Both quality starts have come at AutoZone Park.

The Omaha offense continued to struggle as they put up just one run, the sixth time on this roadtrip they have been held to one run or less. Rey Fuentes provided the lone score with a solo homer in the seventh, his second on the year. Omaha has put up just 11 runs in eight games on the roadtrip, and only five runs in their last six games.

The Storm Chasers opened the season with a record of 7-5 on the road, but have dropped eight of their last ten games away from Werner Park. Omaha also won three of the first four games against the Redbirds this season, but Memphis has now taken five of the last seven contests.

The Storm Chasers and Memphis Redbirds wrap up the five-game series tomorrow, with first pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
