Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings dropped a 5-2 game on a rainy Sunday afternoon to the Quad Cities River Bandits. Poor weather delayed the game and made for sloppy conditions in the River Bandits comeback win.

The LumberKings' pitchers struggled with walks on Saturday night, and the trend continued on Sunday afternoon.

Three walks in the top of the first came back to hurt Rusty Shellhorn. Teoscar Hernandez scored on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Dineen to give Quad Cities a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Clinton scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. Gaby Guerrero and Janelfry Zorrilla ripped consecutive doubles to tie the game. Brock Hebert then drove home Zorrilla with an RBI single to give the LumberKings the advantage.

With Clinton leading 2-1 at the end of the third, the weather worsened at Ashford University Field. Rain delayed the game for one hour and 19 minutes before the game resumed in the fourth inning.

David Holman entered the game after the delay, and the problems with the walks continued. A leadoff free pass in the fourth to Brian Blasik put the tying run aboard. After a stolen base, Austin Elkins delivered with an RBI single to left to score Blasik.

In the fifth inning, Quad Cities took the lead for good. Terrell Joyce launched an opposite field solo home run to right to give the River Bandits a 3-2 lead. They then added two more insurance runs in the ninth inning as the rain drenched the field once again.

Gerardo Sanchez took home the win for Quad Cities, improving to 2-0 on the year. David Holman was saddled with the loss for Clinton, falling to 0-3. Jordan Jankowski pitched four scoreless innings in relief, finishing off the game for his second save.

The LumberKings conclude their four-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits on Monday afternoon. The LumberKings send right-hander Matt Anderson (2-4, 5.58) to the mound against Quad Cities right-hander Vincent Velasquez (3-2, 3.80). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT.
