West Michigan Defeats Lake County 4-2

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - Jared Reaves hit his first homerun of the season in the top of the eighth inning to put the nail in the coffin as the Whitecaps (23-24) defeated the Captains (15-31) by a final of 4-2. Reaves now has 13 RBI on the season. The Whitecaps have won the first two games of the series. Lake County has dropped six straight games which ties their longest losing streak of the season.

West Michigan got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. Jeff Holm tripled to centerfield and scored on a sacrifice fly by Danry Vasquez. Later in the inning, Mario Martinez scored on a single by Austin Schotts. The score was 2-0 Whitecaps.

Austin Schotts had a bunt single, and then stole second base. The throw to second went into center field and Schotts scampered to third base. Zach Kirksey hit a sacrifice fly to left field and the lead was extended to 3-0 Whitecaps.

Lake County scored in the eighth inning. With one out, Claudio Bautista singled and scored on a triple by Erik Gonzalez. Gonzalez now has 18 RBI's, which leads the Captains. Gonzalez also leads the team in hits (39) after his two hit performance on Sunday. The score after eight innings was 4-1 West Michigan. Lake County added a run in the ninth when Anthony Santander doubled and scored on a single by Jorge Martinez and the score was 4-2 Whitecaps. That was the final.

RHP Jake Sisco (1-4) started for the Captains and took the loss. Sisco pitched seven innings and allowed five hits, three runs, two earned runs. He walked two and struck out five. Felix Sterling pitched one inning and allowed one hit and one earned run. The hit was the homer to Reaves. Josh Martin pitched a scoreless ninth for the Captains.

The Whitecaps sent RHP Endrys Briceno (1-3) to the mound to start the game. Briceno got the win. Briceno pitched seven innings, and did not allow a run. He did allow three hits and three walks. Guido Knudson pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed two hits and the one Captains run. Josh Turley pitched one-third inning to finish off the eighth inning. Jose Valdez entered in the ninth inning for West Michigan and earned his tenth save of the season after giving up one run.

Monday is Memorial Day and the Captains will have a special Buck Day, presented by PNC, featuring $1 Five Star Brand Hot Dogs, Dan Dee chips, French fries, popcorn, soda and beer. Also, fans receive a $1 discount on their tickets or $2 off their tickets if they use a PNC Bank debit or credit card.

Lake County will send RHP Dylan Baker (1-3, 3.83) to the mound to start the ballgame. West Michigan will counter with RHP Edgar De La Rosa (2-0, 5.40) First Pitch will be at 1:00 PM.
