WILMINGTON, DE. (SEPTEMBER 6, 2015) -- The Chicago Cubs have activated Pelicans right-handed pitcher Daury Torrez from the 7-day disabled list, and he is expected to start against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday. In a corresponding roster move, right-hander Jeremy Null was placed on the 7-day DL.

Torrez, 22, last pitched on August 27 before he was placed on the 7-day disabled list on August 28. In 23 overall outings with the Pelicans (22 starts), Torrez has compiled a 9-6 record, a 3.86 ERA, and a 1.18 WHIP across 128 1/3 innings of work. In that stretch, the 6-foot-3-inch right-hander has struck out 85 Carolina League batters, the second-most among Pelicans starters, and he has walked just 18. Torrez is also the only player in the circuit who has been credited with two complete games.

Among Carolina Leaguers, Torrez has allowed the third-fewest walks per nine innings pitched (1.28). His nine wins are also tied with teammate Jonathan Martinez for the fourth-most in the Cubs minor league system.

A native of Esperanza, Dominican Republic, the Cubs signed Torrez as a non-drafted free agent on December 22, 2010. On MLBPipeline.com's Cubs Top 30 Prospects List, Torrez ranks 28th overall. According to Baseball America, Torrez entered the 2015 season as the 30th-best Cubs prospect.

Null, 21, was placed on the 7-day DL on July 20 before being activated on July 30. This will be his second stint on the disabled list this season. Since his promotion from Class-A South Bend on June 28, the 6-foot-7-inch right-hander has amassed a 2-3 record with the Pelicans, along with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. In 51 2/3 innings pitched, Null has struck out 34 and walked just seven Carolina League batters. His combined 3.38 ERA between the two levels ranks sixth-lowest in the Cubs minor league system.

A native of Claremont, N.C., Null was named the 2015 Midwest League All-Star Game starter and MVP. The Cubs selected Null in the 15th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Western Carolina University. MLBPipeline.com ranks him as the Cubs' 29th-best prospect, and prior to this season, Baseball America tabbed him the best late-round pick in the 2014 draft.

With the moves, the Pelicans' roster is now at 25 active players, the Carolina League limit, and includes four players on the disabled list.

The Pelicans face the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the penultimate game of the regular season on Sunday. The first pitch from Frawley Stadium is set for 1:35 p.m. ET.

The game can be heard live on 1450 WRNN-AM ESPN Myrtle Beach, on the TuneIn Radio App, and via the MiLB First Pitch App, beginning with the Pregame Show at 1:15 p.m. ET. Click here for a current schedule of the Pelicans final regular season games.
