LAST TIME OUT: JOE SEVER recorded three hits and three RBIs to lead the Hillcats to an 8-4 win over the Carolina Mudcats to snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday night.. DAVID SPEER pitched two innings of relief to earn his first win as a Hillcat... Lynchburg sent all nine batters to the plate in the first inning and the first five reached base as the Hillcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead...CLINT FRAZIER hit a RBI single that scored GREG ALLEN, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the game to make it 1-0...JOE SEVER followed up with a RBI fielder's choice that sored YHOXIAN MEDINA who walked in his first at-bat to extend the lead to two...DORSSYS PAULINO followed with a triple that scored SEVER from first and put Lynchburg up 3-0...ERIC HAASE rounded out the frame with a RBI single that drove in PAULINO from third...In the second inning, MEDINA singled and FRAZIER doubled to give the Hillcats runners at second and third base with one out...JOE SEVER smacked a double to left field to drive in both runners and put the Hillcats up 6-0...In the bottom of the fourth, Lynchburg scored a run when FRAZIER came home from third as DORSSYS PAULINO grounded into a double play to make it 7-3 Hillcats...Lynchburg plated one final run in the bottom of the eighth as Mudcats pitcher CARLOS SALAZAR walked three straight batters including one to MIKE PAPI with the bases loaded to make it 8-4.
VS. CAROLINA: Lynchburg is 5-7 against the Carolina Mudcats this season and 2-2 against the Muddies at home at City Stadium...The last time the two squads met, the Hillcats took three of four against the Mudcats on the road at Five County Stadium but dropped the final game of the series, delaying the Hillcats playoff berth...The Mudcats have outscored the Hillcats 53-44 over the course of 11 games...Lynchburg and Carolina meet less than any other opponent this season...The squads only meet 14 times in 2015 and Friday marks the first meeting at City Stadium since April 29, a span of 116 games...However, the two teams meet eight times over the course of the final two weeks of the regular season...Lynchburg recorded one 15-hit game, a 12-hit game, and two 13-hit games in four of the last five games against Carolina at and Lynchburg, as a team, saw their batting average jump from .209 up to .261 against the Mudcats this season...CLINT FRAZIER leads the Hillcats with a .382 batting average against the Mudcats...FRAZIER has recorded a home run, three doubles, four RBIs, and has walked nine times in 11 contests against Carolina...The Mudcats, however, are hitting .269 against the Hillcats and are led by JOEY MENESES who is hitting .349 in 11 games against the Hillcats...MENESES has recorded four doubles, a triple, and seven RBIs to go along with the two runs he has scored.
PAPI IS HAPPY: Hillcats outfielder MIKE PAPI, posted phenomenal numbers in the month of June when he went .328 at the plate with a home run, seven doubles, eight RBIs and drew 16 walks, but he struggled through July (.250) and August (.218)...However, in the month of September with a playoff run on the horizon, PAPI has found his stride once again and looks to take his extensive playoff experience into the first round against Wilmington...PAPI went 156 at-bats before blasting a solo home run in the second inning on Wednesday night and followed it up with another solo shot in the series finale against Salem the very next night to double his home run total in just two days...through the first four games in the month of September, PAPI is hitting .412 and finished the series against Salem 6-for-11 at the plate with two home runs, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored...PAPI has a wealth of postseason experience to help lead the Hillcats into the playoffs...PAPI was a member of the University of Virginia Cavaliers team that reached the NCAA Super Regional in 2013 and advanced to the NCAA College World Series Final in 2014...PAPI also was a member of the Lake County Captains (Low-A) team that went to the Midwest League championship game in 2014.
J.P ON FIRE-EISEN: Hillcats reliever J.P. FEYEREISEN led Lake County with 10 saves before being called up to Lynchburg in early June and has been primarily a middle to late reliever for the Hillcats...After a rough outing against Winston-Salem on August 1 where he pitched just 2/3 of an inning and allowed three runs on one hit while walking four to see his ERA jump to a 4.19 mark, FEYEREISEN has been dialed in...Over his last 11 appearances, Feyereisen has not allowed a run and has allowed just six hits over 10 innings while surrendering two walks and striking out nine batters...Since that fateful outing against Winston-Salem, FEYEREISEN'S ERA has dropped from 4.19 all the way down to 2.76...FEYEREISEN currently holds the longest active scoreless innings pitched streak that currently sits at 10 games.
WELCOME BACK MEDINA: Hillcats infielder YHOXIAN MEDINA returns to the Hillcats after a brief call-up to Double-A Akron...MEDINA earned the promotion after hitting .307 for the Hillcats in 54 games...MEDINA was promoted on August 31 and made two starts for the Rubberducks to begin the month of September...In MEDINA'S first career start at the Double-A level on September 1, he went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot and smacked a double while driving in a run and scoring once...He followed up that performance with yet another multi-hit game as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored...MEDINA returns to the Hillcats with a .400 career batting average at the Double-A level with a RBI and two runs scored.
SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: With the playoffs just a few days away, the Cleveland Indians organization has decided to move some of their prospects around in order to give them a chance to play at a higher level as the season winds to a close, and perhaps bring in some extra talent for a playoff push...Outfielder GREG ALLEN and first baseman BOBBY BRADLEY were promoted for Low-A Lake County and catcher DANIEL SALTERS was promoted from Mahoning Valley to the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday as BOBBY ISON was promoted from Lynchburg to Double-A Akron on Friday...ALLEN appeared in 123 games for Lake County and racked up a .273 batting average with seven home runs and 45 RBIs while walking 53 times...BRADLEY was a 3rd round draft pick in 2014 and has crushed the ball in Lake County this season...BRADLEY appeared in 108 games for the Captains and tallied a .269 batting average while leading the entire Indians farm system with 27 home runs...He also recorded 92 RBIs to go along with four triples and 15 doubles...SALTERS was a 13th round draft pick in this year's MLB Draft out of Dallas Baptist...SALTERS appeared in 47 games for the Scrappers and recorded a .279 batting average while cranking out two home runs and 26 RBIs.
