Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning but failed to score, as the Winston-Salem Dash earned a 1-0 win on Sunday night at Nymeo Field. With the loss the orange and black return to 11 games below .500 for the season. In the game the visitors committed four errors, but the Dash pitching duo of Jordan Guerrero and James Dykstra worked around trouble to preserve the shutout.
In the ninth, Josh Hart opened the inning with a single off Dykstra, but was thrown out trying to steal second. Jay Gonzalez then walked after an eight-pitch plate appearance, before moving to second on a groundout by Dariel Alvarez.
Needing one more out, Dykstra narrowly missed on a 3-2 pitch to Wynston Sawyer to keep the inning alive for Yaisel Mederos. The Cuban reached on an error by shortstop Cleuluis Rondon, but Adrian Marin grounded out to end the game.
Winston-Salem's lone run came in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. John Means issued back-to-back five pitch walks to Omar Narvaez and Nolan Early, while both advanced into scoring position on a sac-bunt by Rondon. Means (0-3) then got Michael Danner for the second out on a bounce out to third, but the left-hander threw a wild pitch one batter later to bring home Narvaez.
His longest Carolina League start, Means took the tough-luck loss, giving up just the one run on two hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out two. It was Means' longest outing since July 31 with Low-A Delmarva when he pitched a seven-inning no-hitter against Charleston.
Guerrero (7-3) earned the win for the Dash, striking out seven over 5.2 scoreless innings. He gave up only two singles and did not walk a batter. The save was Dykstra's first. He tossed 3.1 clean innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
The Keys play their final game of the season on Monday afternoon at Nymeo Field. Left-hander Mitch Horacek (7-16, 4.64) starts for the Keys against Dash right-hander Spencer Adams (2-0, 2.70). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com.
It is Fan Appreciation Day at the ballpark and fans will have a chance to win great prizes. For tickets, fans can call the box office at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
