Rielly Receives Conference Honors

The Western Hockey League announced their 2012-2013 Eastern Conference First and Second All-Star Teams as well as their conference finalists for the 2012-2013 WHL Awards.

Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Morgan Rielly was named a First Team All-Star, and is the Eastern Conference's nominee for the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy for WHL Defenceman of the Year.

Rielly just completed his third year with the Warriors, he returned to the lineup this year after missing the majority of last season due to an injury. In 60 games, Rielly had twelve goals, forty two assists, and fifty four points and just nineteen penalty minutes.

In June 2012, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected him 5th overall in the NHL Entry Draft, making him the highest drafted Warrior to the NHL. In August he played for Canada in a four game series against Russia to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series. In November he played for Team WHL in the Subway Super Series, and over the holiday season he played with Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships in Russia.

Rielly joined the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League after the completion of the WHL regular season. The 19 year old can make his professional debut as early as Friday when the Marlies battle the Chicago Wolves.
