FRISCO, TEXAS - Behind a late-game rally, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, maintained their perfect start to the season with a 6-4 win in 12 innings against the Arkansas Travelers at Dickey-Stephens Park.

After scoring 17 runs in a three-game sweep of Northwest Arkansas, the RoughRiders (4-0) were kept quiet by Travelers starter Alex Blackford early in the series opener against Arkansas (1-3). Blackford lasted five innings and only allowed two hits, while walking one and striking out six.

As soon as Blackford left, Frisco got on the board on a solo home run off the bat of Ryan Cordell in the sixth inning. The RoughRiders brought the tying run to the plate later in the inning but were not able to capitalize any further.

Meanwhile, Victor Payano settled in after giving up four runs, three earned, in the first three innings. He worked scoreless frames in the fourth and fifth before exiting in the sixth. In total, he allowed seven hits, four runs, three earned, with three walks and six strikeouts. Adam Parks took over in the sixth and subdued a Travelers threat to keep the deficit at 4-1.

Frisco continued to mount a rally in the seventh inning, bringing in a pair of runs on an RBI groundout by Luis Mendez and an RBI single off the bat of Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The comeback continued in the eighth when Joe Jackson came through with a two-out RBI single to drive in Ronald Guzman and tie the game 4-4.

Both bullpens helped get the game to extra innings, where things were quiet for the first two additional frames. However, the RoughRiders broke things open in the top of the 12th. Kiner-Falefa led off with an infield single, Cordell beat out a potential double-play ball, and Lewis Brinson drew a one-out walk. Guzman gave the Riders the lead with an RBI single, and two batters later, Jackson followed with a bloop single that made it 6-4 Frisco.

Jackson finished 2-for-6 with two RBI singles, while Kiner-Falefa was 4-for-5 with four singles, a walk, and an RBI out of the leadoff spot. Ryne Slack worked the final 3 1/3 innings, held Arkansas scoreless, and allowed just two hits to pick up his first win of the season. The Riders bullpen kept the Travelers off the board for seven innings.

Blackford received plenty of early support from the Arkansas bats, which totaled only five runs in the first three games of the season. A two-run double by Brandon Bayardi got the Travelers on the board in the bottom of the first. Arkansas plated another run in the second inning on an errant pickoff throw to third by catcher Alex Burg, and Bayardi clubbed a solo home run in the third to make it 4-0.

The RoughRiders remain the only undefeated team in the Texas League and are just one win away from matching the 2008 RoughRiders squad for the best start in team history. They can match it with a win Monday night in the middle game of the three-game series. The RoughRiders have not announced their starter yet, while Arkansas is scheduled to throw righty Blayne Weller (0-0, -.-- ERA) for the 7:10 p.m. scheduled start. Live coverage from Dickey-Stephens Park can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:35 p.m.

The RoughRiders will open their 2016 home schedule at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday, April 14 against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Opening Night will be the first Thirsty Thursday of the season with $1 domestic draft beers, $2 craft and import beers, and $1 Dr Pepper Products from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a 2016 RoughRiders schedule magnet and after the game, everyone in attendance will be invited onto the field to watch an incredible post-game fireworks show.
