Brett Nicholas Gets Call to Rangers

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - The Texas Rangers announced on Sunday that, in addition to promoting Nomar Mazara, they have also purchased the contract of former RoughRiders catcher and first baseman Brett Nicholas, who will look to make his Major League debut and will be active for this afternoon's Rangers game with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Nicholas led Frisco in homers in 2013 with 21.

Nicholas, 27, has appeared in two games with Round Rock this season. The catcher recorded a double for the Express in their 7-3 victory on Opening Day. In 2013 with Frisco, the Phoenix native hit .289 in 136 Double-A games. Nicholas was a Texas League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star, and he led the circuit with 91 RBI in addition to a team-high in home runs. He was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the 2013 season.

Nicholas becomes to the 140th former RoughRiders player to make the Major Leagues.

The Riders continue their road trip Sunday night with a 6:10 p.m. tilt in North Little Rock against the Arkansas Travelers.
