Frisco RoughRiders News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A four-run lead wasn't enough for the Frisco RoughRiders Wednesday night, as they fell to the Corpus Christi Hooks at Whataburger Field, 5-4. Blaine Crim and Josh Stowers each homered in the RoughRiders loss, as the Hooks scored all five runs in the bottom of the 5th.
Frisco starter Jack Leiter struck seven batters out in his four scoreless innings before allowing a pair of baserunners in the bottom of the 5th. Leiter's seven strikeouts matches his total in his recent outing against San Antonio on August 11th.
The RoughRiders scored first Wednesday night with a run in the top of the first inning on Hooks starter Jose Bravo. Following a leadoff single from Jonathan Ornelas, Frisco designated hitter Justin Foscue scored the first run on a sacrifice fly.
Frisco extended their 1-0 lead in the 2nd with Stowers' two-run shot. Left fielder Trevor Hauver began the inning with a base hit in his first game with Double-A Frisco before Stowers brought them both in with his seventh home run of the year to give the Riders a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the 3rd, Crim knocked the second home run of the night with his solo blast to stretch the lead to 4-0. Crim's 17 home runs are the most of any active Riders hitter.
Leiter began the bottom of the 5th with a walk and a hit-by-pitch before departing for Tai Tiedemann. Corpus Christi rattled off a five-run inning and scored four of their five runs with two outs, with both runners scoring on Leiter's line.
Frisco relievers Grant Wolfram, Kevin Gowdy and Justin Slaten combined for their three scoreless innings down the stretch, holding the Hooks to one hit.
Southpaw Cody Bradford (8-6, 5.62 ERA) makes his 22nd start of the year Thursday night against Hooks RHP Tyler Brown (1-8, 8.75 ERA) with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch from Whataburger Field.
After wrapping up the road trip to Corpus Christi on Sunday, Frisco returns to Riders Field on Tuesday, August 23rd to begin a six-game set against the Wind Surge of Wichita at 7:05 p.m. For tickets and more information about the Frisco RoughRiders, visit RidersBaseball.com or call 972.731.9200.
