The Saskatchewan Roughrider nominees for the CFL awards were announced today. This year's nominees are: Kenton Keith (Most Outstanding Player), Jason French (Outstanding Canadian), Gene Makowsky (Outstanding Offensive Lineman), Eddie Davis (Outstanding Defensive Player), Corey Holmes (Outstanding Special Teams Player) and Santino Hall (Outstanding Rookie). All voting for the CFL Most Outstanding Player Awards is done by the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).
KENTON KEITH
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER
First nomination as Most Outstanding Player...leads the Riders in rushing with 190 carries for 1,154 yards and nine touchdowns in only 14 games...also has 29 receptions for 295 yards and two touchdowns...was Rider nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie last year...last Roughrider to win the award was Ron Lancaster in 1976.
JASON FRENCH
OUTSTANDING CANADIAN
First nomination as Roughriders Outstanding Canadian...has set career high with 48 receptions for 804 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games this season...French is in his fourth season with the Green and White...the last Rider to win Outstanding Canadian was Ray Elgaard in 1992.
GENE MAKOWSKY
OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
Second nomination as Outstanding Offensive Lineman... was also nominated in 2002...has started all 17 games at right tackle this season...last Roughrider offensive lineman to win award was Andrew Greene last year.
EDDIE DAVIS
OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER
First nomination as Outstanding Defensive Player...has had a career year in his fourth season with the Riders...leads the team and has set a career-high with six interceptions...has also recorded 52 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, and two quarterback sacks...last Roughrider to win Outstanding Defensive Player was Jearld Baylis in 1993.
SANTINO HALL
OUTSTANDING ROOKIE
Has started 14 games for the Riders this season...the versatile rookie has played linebacker, halfback, and cornerback this season...has picked up 50 defensive tackles and three interceptions this season...last Roughrider to win Outstanding Rookie was Vince Goldsmith in 1981.
COREY HOLMES
OUTSTANDING SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER (JOHN AGRO AWARD)
Third straight nomination as Special Teams Player...leads team with 702 kickoff return yards and 650 punt return yards and a touchdown in 17 games this season...Holmes won this award in 2002.
