Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – Four Ottawa Renegades players were announced as team nominees for the Rogers CFL Player Awards today.

Renegades running back Josh Ranek got the nod as OttawaÂ’s pick for the Outstanding Player, Kelly Wiltshire was picked as OttawaÂ’s Most Outstanding Canadian and top defensive player, while George Hudson took the lineman nomination and newcomer Jason Armstead will vie for top rookie honours and best special teams player.

The winners will be announced in Ottawa, during Grey Cup week, at the Rogers CFL Player Awards and Cocktail Party on Thursday, November 18.

Ranek, who leads the Renegades in points (60) and rushing touchdowns (8), leads the team in rushing with 971 yards heading into the final regular season game (Saturday, October 30th at home against Hamilton). With 29 more yards, the team leader in yards from scrimmage (1,638) can eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second consecutive year.

Wiltshire, OttawaÂ’s leader in defensive tackles (76), has been a force at both free safety and linebacker this season. The Montreal native has started and played at both positions, registering two tackles for loss, recovering two fumbles, intercepting one pass and is presently fifth in special teams tackles (8). Also impressive for the veteran is his Ironman streak of 143 consecutive regular season games played, and 152 overall including playoffs and Grey Cup.

Hudson has been a rock on the Renegades offensive line. The starting centre has played every game but one this season – when a back injury kept him out of the line-up.

Armstead, meanwhile, has caught the league by storm. The third leading receiver on the Renegades (608), Armstead is also tops in all-purpose yards (2,306) and third in yards from scrimmage (625). ArmsteadÂ’s finest outing as a Renegade was on October 9th, when he registered 317 all-purpose yards against Saskatchewan. His electrifying returns have made him one of the top special teams players in the league. He has returned 37 kickoffs for 700 yards and run back 64 punts for 821 yards. At one point this season, the native of Mississippi had a four-game consecutive touchdown streak.
