CFL announces Rogers Player Awards nominees

Toronto, ONT. -- The Canadian Football League today announced the team nominees for the Rogers CFL Player Awards. The team nominees were selected by 45 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).

In this ballot, five FRC representatives from each region submitted votes for each award. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club whom they believed to be most deserving of each of the six awards (Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian, Outstanding ADT Defensive Player, Outstanding Lineman, Outstanding Rookie, and Outstanding Special Teams Player [John Agro]).

Outstanding Player:
This is Casey Printers' first ever nomination for the Rogers CFL Player Awards
Kevin Eiben is the Argonauts nominee in two other categories (Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding ADT Defensive Player)
Jason Maas was last nominated as Edmonton's Outstanding Player in 2001

Outstanding Canadian:
3rd year in a row Ben Cahoon has been named the Alouettes' nominee for Outstanding Canadian
2nd time Mike Morreale has ever been selected as Hamilton's nominee for Outstanding Canadian
4th time Kelly Wiltshire has been nominated as a club's Outstanding Canadian (three times with Ottawa and once with Toronto)

Outstanding ADT Defensive Player:
With the exception Kelly Wiltshire and John Grace, all are first time nominees for Outstanding Defensive Player
John Grace was named ADT Defensive Player of the Month for both August and September

Outstanding Lineman:
Jay McNeil has been named the Stampeders' Outstanding Lineman nominee three times (2001, 2002, 2004)

Outstanding Rookie:
Santino Hall was signed by Saskatchewan as a free agent in February 2004 and spent four seasons at Texas Southern University (1999-2002)
Tom Canada signed with the Blue Bombers in January 2004 after playing two years of NCAA Division I football with the California-Berkeley Golden Bears
Mathieu Bertrand was a successful CIS quarterback with the Laval Rouge et Or before being signed by the Eskimos in January 2004

Outstanding Special Teams Player:
Noel Prefontaine was last nominated for Toronto's Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2002
