Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, October 26, 2004 - The votes are in and here are the players who will represent the Montreal Alouettes as the league's Most Outstanding Players:

Most Outstanding Player: ANTHONY CALVILLO

For the fourth consecutive year, the Alouettes' offensive leader and the league's most prolific passer, Anthony Calvillo will represent his team for the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award. With help from his extremely talented receiving corps, Calvillo currently leads the league in three of the five major quarterback categories including most attempts (653), most completions (406), and most passing yards (5,687). With just 313 yards this Thursday against Toronto, Calvillo can become only the fourth quarterback in CFL history to break the 6,000 yards passing mark. One of the few CFL quarterbacks to call his own plays, Calvillo has led the Alouettes this season to a fifth division title in six years.

Most Outstanding Defensive Player: ANWAR STEWART

Rush end Anwar Stewart has truly made his mark on one of the best defences in the CFL. Fourth in the league with nine quarterback sacks, Stewart has also returned two interceptions for touchdowns this season. After 17 games, he has 20 tackles, three special teams tackles, and 11 knockdowns. In his third season as an Alouette, Stewart has truly distinguished himself as a player who makes a difference on defence.

Most Outstanding Canadian Player: BEN CAHOON

The CFL's top Canadian in 2003 has to be considered a favourite to win his third consecutive award this season. Always a key to the Alouettes' success, Cahoon has once again made his mark on its powerful offence. After 15 games played, he is the team's top receiver with 88 catches for 1,105 yards and five touchdowns. In eight seasons with Montreal, Cahoon has started 123 games and remains one of the league's most reliable players.

Most Outstanding Lineman: UZOOMA OKEKE

A veteran of the Als' offensive line since 1997, Okeke has the experience and attitude needed to protect his quarterback and running backs and he has always played with unmatched passion and pride. He's made a major contribution to the Montreal offence, the first ever to boast four 1,000-yard receivers. Okeke won this award in 1999 on top of his East Division nomination in 1998.

Most Outstanding Rookie: ALMONDO CURRY

Since his debut game, Curry has become one of the most fearsome cornerbacks in the league. After 17 games, he leads the Alouettes and is third in the CFL with five interceptions including one which he returned for a touchdown. He has 49 tackles, one quarterback sack, four special teams tackles and eight knockdowns. With Curry in the backfield, opposing quarterbacks must always be wary of a potential interception.

Most Outstanding Special Teams Player: EZRA LANDRY

Probably the most exciting player in the Canadian Football League, Ezra Landry is a real magician on the run. In his first career CFL game, he returned a missed field goal 110 yards for a touchdown and he repeated this feat a few weeks later when he returned another missed field goal 120 yards in Winnipeg. Landry also scored a touchdown on a punt return.
