St. John's IceCaps News Release

EIMSKIP CUP: The second annual Eimskip Port-to-Port Challenge begins this Friday and Saturday at Mile One against the Portland Pirates. This best-of-four series will also include two games played in Portland later this month.

PLAYMAKER: Assistant Captain Bud Holloway is tied for second in the league with 22 assists in 31 games.

CAPS AT THE CLASSIC: Two former IceCaps got the chance to play in the NHL Winter Classic with the Canadiens. Daniel Carr and Mark Barberio both hit the ice for the Habs in the outdoor 5-1 win against the Boston Bruins.

Barberio picked up an assist and finished the game +3.

Gabriel Dumont scored shorthanded and Charles Hudon sniped a powerplay marker but the St. John's IceCaps were shaded by the Rochester Americans in a shootout at First Niagra Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Cal O'Reilly scored the winner in the shootout as Rochester outscored St. John's 3-1 in the breakaway contest.

The hometown Binghamton Senators led 3-0 early in the second period before Sven Andrighetto, back in his first IceCaps game since November 20th, and Stefan Fournier scored to make it a 3-2 game. St. John's was unable to complete the comeback in the close game. Zach Fucale stopped 31 of 33 shots.

The IceCaps started off strong potting two goals in the first five minutes of play. Lucas Lessio scored the first goal of the night, followed by another marker from Jeremy Gregoire. Brandon McNally notched his first goal of the season to extend the lead in the third period. Dustin Tokarski stopped 26 of 27 shots for a first star performance.
