South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today the addition of Athletic Trainer Rick Covard and Equipment Manager Brian Godin to the Hockey Operations staff.
Covard enters his first full season as head athletic trainer after assisting the staff for parts of the last five campaigns. A native of Rochester, New York, Covard has over 13 years of experience in sports medicine including five years at Trident Sports Medicine in North Charleston. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Exercise from Charleston Southern University and a Masters in MS Rehabilitation Science from Clarion University in Pennsylvania.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the Stingrays," mentioned Covard. "I have big shoes to fill with DJ Church being such a large part of the organization for so long."
"Adding Rick to our staff will be as seamless a transition as possible with the departure of DJ," Carbery added. "He has experience being around him and the organization over the past five years including filling in as head athletic trainer for an extended period of time during the 2010-11 season."
Godin joins the Stingrays after spending four seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League as the visiting team locker room attendant and manger of the Coyotes' practice facility pro shop. A graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and native of North Yarmouth, ME, Godin's uncle, Bert, is the Equipment Manager for the St. Louis Blues (NHL).
"After an extensive search for a new equipment manger, we are extremely fortunate to add Brian to our staff," Carbery said. "He's been around the game his whole life and has experience being involved at the NHL level. His work ethic and passion towards his profession have already been on display in the short time he's been in the position."
"I am very excited to join the Stingrays and move back to the East Coast," said Godin. "Spencer has been a tremendous help welcoming me to the team and city."
