Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed free agent right wing Shawn Skelly for the 2013-14 season, Aces head coach Rob Murray announced today.

Skelly, 26, is back for his second year in an Aces sweater and raises the total to 13 players who suited up on last season's team that captured their third straight Brabham Cup for the ECHL's top regular season record.

The 5-foot-10, 187-pound forward was signed by the Aces as a free agent last season on Jan. 18, 2013 and followed up with 14 points (7g-7a) and a +10 rating in 19 games with the Aces. He added a pair of assists in two games with Bakersfield, after the Condors acquired him and defenseman Chris Haltigin on Mar. 7 in exchange for current Aces forward Evan Trupp.

Skelly made his ECHL debut in 2011-12 and skated in two games with the Toledo Walleye.

The Wolverine Lake, Mich. native started last season in the Southern Professional Hockey League with Augusta and Mississippi, earning 30 points (17g-13a) in 31 combined games. He has 76 points and a +20 rating in 83 combined SPHL games with Mississippi and Augusta.

Skelly starred for four seasons at Adrian College (NCAA), scoring 102 goals and earning 229 points in 113 career games. He racked up 47 power-play goals throughout his four years, ranking sixth all-time at the NCAA Division III level. As a 2007-08 freshman, Skelly finished tied for second on the Bulldogs with 30 goals while boasting 74 points in 29 games. He led the program in goals for each of his final three years.

Aces training camp information for the 2013-14 season will be announced soon. The Aces will begin their 2013-14 season at home on Friday, Oct. 18 at Sullivan Arena when they host the San Francisco Bulls.
