Iowa Cubs News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Kristopher Negrón went 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored and a stolen base to help the Iowa Cubs (38-39) to a 3-2 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (42-36), Tuesday at Chickasaw Brickdown Ballpark to secure a series victory.
Clayton Richard got the start in his first rehab appearance with Iowa. He was limited to a single inning after a two hour rain delay in the second forced him from the game. Richard retired all three batters he faced and sat down two on strikes. Tommy La Stella continued his rehab stint, going 1-for-3 with one RBI, one walk and one strikeout.
Iowa was first to strike as Matt Murton singled in the second and later capitalized on a wild pitch from Hyun-Jin Ryu to come home. Oklahoma City also made the most of an Iowa miscue in the bottom of the frame as O'Koyea Dickson scored on a balk from Aaron Brooks. It was the only run Brooks would allow as he followed with three scoreless frames to hold off the Dodgers.
Brooks contributed to his cause and helped Iowa regain the lead in the fifth. Leading off the inning with a single, Brooks advanced as John Andreoli drew a walk and was driven home on a single from La Stella. The I-Cubs had the chance to do more damage with runners on the corners and no outs, but Dodgers' pitcher Ross Stripling wiggled out of the frame.
Iowa added necessary insurance in the sixth as Negrón doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Munenori Kawasaki. Down to their final strike, Dickson kept the game alive with a solo shot, but Felix Pena was able to shut the door before the comeback was completed.
Brooks (1-1) earned his first win in an Iowa uniform and Pena (2) took the save.
Iowa takes the day off tomorrow before embarking on a stretch of six games in four days at Round Rock, beginning with a doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. CT Thursday. Follow the action on AM 940 or at www.iowacubs.com.
