Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have added right-handed pitcher Santo Luis to the roster. Sea Dogs right-handed pitcher Kyle Weiland was transferred to Single-A Lowell to make room on the roster for Luis. Luis was claimed off waivers on April 14th by the Red Sox from the Chicago White Sox. He will wear uniform #46 and is a member of the Red Sox 40-man roster.

Luis, 26, has made two appearances for Chicago's Double-A Birmingham club this season, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA (1 ER/3.0 IP) and three strikeouts. The right-hander spent the 2009 season with Single-A Winston-Salem, finishing 5-4 with 14 saves, a 4.34 ERA (27 ER/56.0 IP) and 79 strikeouts in 47 relief outings. His 14 saves ranked third among all White Sox minor leaguers and fifth in the Carolina League. He also led Carolina League relievers with 12.7 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and was fifth with a .227 opponent average against.

A native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, Luis was originally signed by Houston as an international free agent on September 11, 2002. In 195 career minor league games (19 starts) in the Astros and White Sox organizations, he is 22-20 with 40 saves and a 3.66 ERA (157 ER/386.0 IP).

Weiland has made two starts for Portland posting a 0-1 record with a 5.40 ERA.

The Portland Sea Dogs are scheduled to play a doubleheader Sunday afternoon starting at 1:00 PM against the Trenton Thunder at Hadlock Field. Portland will welcome the Binghamton Mets to town on Monday for a three game series. Tickets are available to all remaining 2010 Sea Dogs' home games.
