New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Luis Perez and two relievers combined on a one-hitter, and Adam Calderone went 2-for-3 with sacrifice fly as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Binghamton Mets, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Perez, who brought a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his first start of the season on Tuesday in Reading, took a no-hit bid into the top of the sixth before Luis Hernandez (1-for-4, HR) delivered a solo home run, his first, over the right field wall with one out. Perez then walked Zach Lutz (0-for-1, 3 BB) and hit Lucas Duda (0-for-1, 2 HBP, BB) with a pitch, but the left-hander escaped further harm when shortstop Jonathan Diaz made a diving play to begin an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play on Marshall Hubbard's grounder up the middle.

Perez recorded three strikeouts, walked four and hit two batters in improving to 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA.

Trystan Magnuson pitched a perfect eighth, and Danny Farquhar fanned two batters, working around a walk, to notch his third save in three opportunities.

New Hampshire (6-4) scored first for the first time in the series when Manny Mayorson (1-for-3, 2 BB, R) scored on a double-play ground out for a 1-0 lead.

The Fisher Cats built the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third, with Diaz (0-for-3, 2 BB, R) scoring from third when Mets second baseman Jose Coronado dropped a potential inning-ending fielder's choice throw.

Adam Calderone (2-for-3, 2B, SF) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to stake New Hampshire to a 3-0 lead.

Eric Niesen (0-2) took the loss for Binghamton (6-5) after allowing two runs -one earned- on three hits in four innings. The left-hander fanned four and walked three.

The Fisher Cats' first homestand of the season continues on Monday night with the opener of a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder at 6:35pm. New Hampshire right-hander Kyle Drabek (1-1, 5.06) will pitch against Trenton righty Ryan Pope (0-0, 1.80). Radio coverage begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.

Monday night is U.S. Cellular Most Improved Student Night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, and fans will have the opportunity to play USA Subs Baseball Bingo. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
