
RHP Kyle Wright Promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett, RHP Connor Johnstone Activated from the Disabled List

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster moves affecting the M-Braves roster before tonight's 7:00 pm game against Birmingham at Trustmark Park. RHP Kyle Wright has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett and RHP Connor Johnstone has been activated from the Mississippi Disabled List.
Wright, 22, the Atlanta Braves No. 2 overall prospect according to MLB.com has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett. Wright made 20 starts for the M-Braves this season, posting a 3.70 ERA (45 ER/109.1 IP) over 20 starts with 43 walks and 105 strikeouts. Wright's ERA during his first full professional season improved each month and so far in July has a 2.33 ERA (7 ER/27.0 IP) in four starts with seven walks and 21 strikeouts. In his final M-Braves start, Wright pitched a career-high 8.0 innings of one-run baseball on July 25. The Atlanta Braves first-round selection (fifth overall) in 2017 set a career high with 13 strikeouts in a no-decision on June 26 at Trustmark Park in his second-straight start against Jacksonville. The Huntsville, AL native (the Rocket City) earned the first win of his Mississippi Braves and professional career on April 21 against the Mobile BayBears. Wright tossed six innings of shutout baseball. One of Wright's best starts was on May 29 at Biloxi, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning at Biloxi on May 29th, but Corey Ray singled with one out to break up the bid after 5.1 innings. Wright pitched 7.0 innings and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
The 6'4" right-hander pitched in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game on July 15 and came into the game at Nationals Park in the 8th inning and made short work of the World lineup despite inheriting runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. He got a fly ball out and then induced a double play to help preserve the US team's lead. Wright pitched three years for Vanderbilt University, and in 61 career games, 35 starts, went 19-11 with a 2.78 ERA (79 ER/255.1 IP) and 290 strikeouts.
Johnstone, 23, has pitched in six games, one start with Mississippi this season, posting a 3.95 ERA in 13.2 innings. The Roswell, GA native has appeared at three levels of the Atlanta Braves farm system this season going 1-2 with a 3.46 ERA (21 ER/54.2 IP), 21 walks and 47 strikeouts.
Johnstone was Atlanta's 21st round selection in the 2017 draft out of Wake Forest University.
The Mississippi Braves roster currently stands at 25 active players and four on the disabled list
