Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Altoona Curve were unable to grab the decisive game of a three-game set against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, falling 5-2 on Sunday night at Blair County Ballpark.
A crowd of 6,475 enjoyed a spectacular post-game fireworks show, and over the six-game homestand, a total of 38,795 Curve fans came through the turnstiles to cheer on their hometown team. The attendance over the six-game homestand was the fourth largest in franchise history.
On the field, Curve starter Dan Reichert (2-4) was out dueled by New Hampshire (Toronto Blue Jays) lefty Brad Mills (3-2). Mills stymied the Curve bats over seven shutout innings. The 23-year old allowed just three hits and struck out six batters to earn the victory. Mills, drafted in the fourth round of last year's draft spent the 2007 season with the New York-Penn League Champion Auburn Doubledays. Mills has moved swiftly through the Blue Jays system, beginning the season at Lansing (Single-A) before a mid-season promotion to Dunedin (Advanced-A) before getting called up to New Hampshire. On Sunday, Mills was just making his sixth career Double-A start.
Reichert allowed four runs on six hits over five innings of work. The Fisher Cats (58-77) plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning before two more came across in the top of the sixth.
For good measure, New Hampshire tacked on a run in the top of the seventh inning off of reliever Blair Johnson.
Altoona (61-74) would mount a comeback effort in the bottom of the eight inning off reliever Jason Burch. Milver Reyes hit his first home run since 2005 with a solo shot to lead off the inning. It is the seventh career home run for Reyes, who is playing in his ninth season in professional baseball.
The Curve would grab another run in the inning. One batter later, Shelby Ford tripled to right field and later came across to score on a Jonel Pacheco RBI single.
