Connecticut Defenders News Release
NORWICH, CT- A good season is not always determined by wins or losses but rather by reaching goals. For the first time in seven years the Connecticut Defenders surpassed their goal of 200,000 fans in attendance as they finished their 2008 home schedule Sunday.
"We are very proud of our staff in helping deliver this goal but more importantly recognize the great support of our fans especially through tough times with the economy," said Defenders General Manager Charlie Dowd.
The Defenders wrapped up the 2008 season with a final attendance of 202, 004. This marks the ninth time in franchise history the team has exceeded the two hundred thousand mark. The team had its largest crowd on Saturday, July 26 vs. New Britain when 7,070 piled into Dodd Stadium. That number alone set a record with the first crowd since 2002 to exceed seven thousand without a major league rehab stint. Connecticut has improved its attendance since changing names from the Norwich Navigators to the Defenders back in 2006.
Connecticut finishes up the 2008 regular season with an 8 day road-trip with a four game set in Reading and Trenton. Action returns to Dodd Stadium on Thursday, April 16, 2009 vs. the Trenton Thunder as the Defenders open up their 15th season in Norwich.
